About Us

Scouts BSA Troop 2000 is chartered by American Legion Walter Johnson Post 721 in Coralville, Iowa. Scouts BSA is for youth (our troop is for boys, but there are troops in the area for girls) ages 11 through 17 interested in the outdoors, character development, and a strong moral foundation for becoming young adults. Troop 2000 meets on Sunday evenings at 7pm at the First Christian Church in Coralville.

Every Scout is a member of a Scouts BSA Troop. Troops are divided into Patrols.  Each patrol has around 6 to 12 boys and is led by one of the boys, the Patrol Leader, and his assistant. The Troop is led by the Senior Patrol Leader, his assistant, and a staff of other boys such as the Quartermaster, Historian, Webmaster, Chaplain, and others.

The Scoutmaster is the adult in charge of the program, aided by Assistant Scoutmasters, the Troop Committee, and various staff positions such as Unit Advancement, Training, Fundraising, and Treasurer.

Scouts advance in rank as they learn skills, earn merit badges, and complete service projects. They must demonstrate that they live by the Scout Law, the Scout Oath, and show good Scout Spirit. They participate in Troop activities such as campouts, and a week-long summer camp.
